The Hands of Time Theres no better feeling as a songwriter than when someone covers one of your songs. This song is a special one to me as it was inspired by my little girl Lily playing in the same park that I had grown up and spent my childhood years in. Meadhbh Walsh take a bow you done such a lovely job on this and Im honoured. Give it a listen folks. | George Murphy

The Parting Glass 1st of many old standards I'm gonna record. A lot of these great songs were in my set lists over the years but as I started writing my own songs and appreciating a lot of the more obscure, less obvious songs the standards slowly made their way out of my set lists. Its been enjoyable revisiting them and I'm gonna upload a few over the coming days/weeks. Any requests feel free to send them on. | George Murphy

Dainty Davy - Live at Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann Today is Burns Day. Robbie Burns the Scottish poet/songwriter left behind so many wonderful songs that have survived 100s of years since his passing. This one is one of my favourites and was lovely to perform it in such good company on @tg4tv at the Fleadh with @gerodonnellmusic @trevor.sexton.music and @meadhbhwalshmusic | George Murphy

The Streets of New York Another from the old classics songbook. This is a more modern day classic though. A few requests came in for this one. I was lucky enough to become friends with Liam Reilly (Bagatelle) in the later years of his life. What a genius of a writer he was and so kind with his time and wisdom. This was one of 6 number 1 hits that he had. It became a huge hit for The Wolfetones and is still a fan favourite today. Give it an auld share if ya can folks. Keep the requests coming in.

The Night Visiting Song Last night in The Cork Opera House Rob Heffernan asked me to sing this song. It's the last song Luke ever performed live and it was on that very stage so it was a real honour to sing it. Huge thank you to Laura and Rob for inviting me along, to Sean Og O Halpin for being a good sport and sharing the Auld Triangle with me, to Marty Morrissey for back stage chats and craic and to the wonderful audience who gave me a standing ovation. Thanks so much. Cant wait for my return

Raglan Road Live in Cork Opera House Thanks to my pal Nick Phelan for capturing this video. Ive been singing this song since I was barely out of nappies but to have silence in the Opera House and to be able to step away from the mic for a verse was something truly special. Thank you Cork. Next up Belfasts Ulster Hall on wedneday 🙂 | George Murphy

Dewey Dens of Yarrow. There's a lot of songs I really like and am proud of on myself and The Sons debut album "Something Out of Nothing" but this might just be my favourite. I fell in love with the riff and arrangement years ago when I first heard Conor O Sullivan playing it. It is his arrangement and I asked him if I could borrow it and thankfully he said yes. It's a beautiful, tragic, somewhat mythical tale of love and loss. Was delighted to record it for TG4 for this year's Fleadh Cheoil. Rol

Only Our Rivers Run Free with the writer Mickey McConnell and Sean Regan at the legendary attic library in Mike the Pies. What a fecking night, what a song and what an honour to sing and record it with Mickey himself. Myself and Mickey were talking. I mentioned a lovely version of this song I had heard by Onóir and Aidan, the owner of Mike the Pies suggested we go up to the iconic library and record our own rendition. Thanks for everything Aidan. Big thanks and Happy Birthday to Paul Manning who

Rosie Ale of England - @barrytierneymusic The first single released by myself and @therisingsonsmusic was this classic modern day ballad about a man who left Irish shores to work in The U.K. After many years squandering his money on his unrequited love Rosie (a metaphor for the gargle) he decided it was time to give her up and move back home to Ireland to where "Padraic Pearse proclaimed an Irish State" Should we have this song in the set for our Ultimate Session tour? What other songs would you

Eve of Destruction. Well here it is folks. With all the trees down around the area from storm Eowyn it feels like an appropriate day to release a song of this title. I grew up listening to my Dad singing this song. He still does a brilliant job on it. Its a sad state of affairs that a song written and recorded in the 60s about war is as significant and relevant today in 2025. Such is the state of the world at the moment. I made a small lyrical change to make it more modern day. When it came time

The Hands of Time... They are ticking by quicker than I'd like sometimes. I wrote this song when Lily was a toddler playing in the local park that I grew up and spent my childhood years in. Watching her playing in the park knowing that one day she wouldn't really need me to hold her hand and bring her to the park and that she would do it alone was a thought that was way into future at the time but is very much a reality today and now it's her little sisters that need their hand held... atleast f

Scorn Not His Simplicity Recorded at The Balor Arts Centre last week after someone shouted up a request for it. I havent played this song in concert for quite a while but as today is World Downs Syndrome Day it feels like a good day to share it with yas. The musicians on stage with me Sean Regan and Conor O Sullivan had never played this song with me before but we were all happy to give it a try after someone shouted it up as a request. I recorded this many moons ago on my first album with the s

Chains - Aslan So delighted to be asked back to Vicar Street for a night to remember the legendary Christy Dignam. This has always been my favourite Aslan song and when I was taking to the iconic stage for the first time with The Rising Sons Christy had only just passed so we decided to do our version in special memory of him. I remember being in the dressing room with Christy and the Aslan lads when I was only a teenager and they were discussing the set list and where I was gonna feature as a s

Music should always be inclusive!!! I was gonna put up a post on Monday and couldn't find the words... I said id leave it til Tuesday and then I couldn't find the time so here I am Wednesday finally getting around to it. An unbelieveable weekend of shows and incredible tour so far. If it's made me realise anything it's that the one thing I enjoy more than performing is seeing people getting an opportunity to perform on a big stage for a first time. Even with my own band The Sons when we all got

Music is a funny beautiful thing sometimes. Whilst touring in Newfoundland years ago I heard a band called Rum Ragged and I enjoyed their set so much that I bought their record. One track in particular I loved was Ghosts in the Fog so myself and The Rising Sons recorded it on our debut album. Last night was our first night to have it on the set list for a concert and I got a text from Mark Manning who is the lead singer from Rum Ragged to say he was in town if I fancied catching up for a beer or

Universal Soldier This is the first single I released with The Rising Sons back in 2019. An anti war song written in the 60s which is sadly every bit as significant and relevant today as it was the day it was written. A march from South Kerry to Dublin has been organised to deliver a petition to enact the Occupied Territories Bill and demand a ceasefire for the Palestinian people. Enough is enough. I am proud to say myself and The Sons will be performing this great song on the day. Come show you
